Benefits of Printing Labels via RESTful API with SENTINEL

How many business systems – an ERP or WMS – have you heard are migrating to the cloud? In its report, the International Data Corporation (IDC) said “demand for cloud-based ERP applications continues to grow because of their ability to access and analyze massive amounts of data in near real time.” As more and more companies utilize cloud-based ERP systems, integrative software solutions need to be able to play nice with them.

Connecting SENTINEL label printing automation software with RESTful API, or REST (Representational State Transfer), allows you to print labels automatically out of cloud-based systems and receive bi-directional communication on print jobs. Below we explain how to print labels via RESTful API with SENTINEL.

Easily Trigger Print Jobs from Cloud ERP Systems Using REST

REST enables label printing automation to work more seamlessly with ERP systems migrating to the cloud or being accessed through a web browser.

Benefits of Cloud ERP System Labeling Integration

With SENTINEL you can do all of this over the internet, so all you need is a connection and browser!

No More Wondering – Get Live Feedback on Print Jobs

Most companies with label printing automation software currently use a generic, not bi-directional method for requesting print jobs – for example, exporting a flat text file from their business system. With this method, if you want more information you need to monitor folders and log files to see if a print job was successful.

Integrating SENTINEL label printing with RESTful API allows for bi-directional communication. Now when you’re printing out of an ERP, WMS, or other business systems, you’ll receive immediate feedback about that print job and whether it passed or completed, or any errors that may have occurred.

Printing Labels via RESTful Web API with SENTINEL is Simple

Start printing labels using SENTINEL’s RESTful Web API input plugin in minutes. You can configure it to work with an API key authorization or HTTPS configuration if your RESTful Web Server requires those.

  1. Open SENTINEL Manager
  2. Create a new sentinel by clicking the New button or open an existing sentinel
  3. Select the Input tab
  4. Use the drop-down arrow to select Rest Web Server API
  5. Select Settings
  6. Add new or modify existing and new connections
  7. Select your network adapter
  8. Enter your port #
  9. Edit your security settings
  10. Edit your Database cleanup settings as needed
  11. Select OK
  12. Select the green start button to start your watch
  13. Test the input via your business application
