My labels are printing, but the print speed is very slow. How can I speed up my print jobs? |

There are a number of possible reasons for slow print speeds, but in most cases it is due to one or more of the following three problems.
- Are you using a LABEL MATRIX printer driver?
LABEL MATRIX-written drivers enable you to maximize your bar code label printer’s capabilities. By providing access to the printer’s resident fonts, LABEL MATRIX drivers make the most efficient use of the memory available and thereby greatly increase the print speed and efficiency. If the printer driver you are using is located in the Windows Printers folder, then it is NOT a LABEL MATRIX driver. LABEL MATRIX drivers are proprietary to this program and are never installed to the Windows Printers folder. To select a LABEL MATRIX driver in the program, select Printer Setup from the File menu and click the Add button. Then follow the Add Printer Wizard to select a LABEL MATRIX-written driver.
- Are you using a printer resident font?
If you are using a thermal printer (vs. a Laser or Inkjet printer, etc.) and would like to print an amount of labels at a tolerable speed, you should select a printer resident font. These fonts are designated in the program’s font drop-down list with a little printer symbol next to them. These printer resident fonts will appear in your font list in the program only if you are using the LABEL MATRIX supplied printer driver for this printer. If you are, then the program will use the fonts from the printer for optimal print speed. Printer resident fonts are stored inside the memory of the printer, rather than downloaded or sent to the printer as a bitmap (as with TrueType fonts). For this reason, the text can be generated by the printer much faster than a downloaded or bitmapped piece of text.
- Are you trying to print color graphics to a printer that does not support color graphics?
If you are printing to a thermal/thermal transfer printer, note that color (non-monochrome) graphics will usually cause labels to print very slowly because they require a lot of memory from the printer and end up causing a large file size for the label file. The only option is to open the graphic in a separate graphics program and convert it to a monochrome (black and white) graphic and resave it. Unfortunately, this may cause the graphic to look less attractive when printed because when the graphic had color it used gray scaling to make those effects, but converting it to monochrome strips out the gray scaling (which is necessary because gray scaling is not supported by most thermal printers).
